Before You Apply:

Students that are interested in joining our University of Maryland, College Park chapter should first consider that they have met all the requirements of membership before going through the application process. These requirements include:

Undergraduate Students:
  • A declared psychology major at University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) 
  • Completion of at least 3 semesters or 5 quarters of college coursework 
  • Completion of 9 credits in psychology at the UMCP 
  • 3.3 GPA in psychology coursework and a 3.0 cumulative GPA at UMCP 
Graduate Students:
  • A grade average of a "B" in all graduate coursework, including psychology 
  • Psi Chi accepts the policy of the institution regarding grades 
Application Process:

Now that you have read and understood the requirements for our chapter, you are ready to apply! The application process is comprised of two steps, each of which will be clearly defined into further detail. In order to be sure that you gain membership, it is important that all the required applications, paperwork and money is handed in on or before the posted deadline.

Step #1:
  1. Fill out the membership application completely 
  2. Obtain a copy of your unofficial transcript electronically 
  3. Fill out FREE Psi Chi t-shirt order form 
  4. Fill out prospective member informational worksheet 
  5. Email completed materials to psichi.umd@gmail.com, or to a board member at one of our posted chapter meetings 
  6. Deadline: February 28th, 2014

NOTE: you will be contacted by one of our executive board members if you have been accepted for membership into our chapter. Once accepted, you only have one more step to complete until you are officially a Psi Chi member!

Step #2:
  1. Fill out the Psi Chi membership card completely and email it to psichi.umd@gmail.com 
  2. $85 check made out to Psi Chi for your one time, lifetime membership fee 
  3. Hand in check to Psi Chi board member at a posted chapter meeting 
  4. Deadline: March 21, 2014

After You Apply:
  • You will be sent an invitation to be a part of the Psi Chi induction ceremony to officially become a Psi Chi member! 
  • Take advantage of Psi Chi's opportunities by participating in chapter meetings, service events and using the organization's networking capabilities to enhance your career and educational backgrounds
