Nationally known researcher, Nick DiFonzo, to speak at University of Baltimore

Event Details:
University of Baltimore is hosting a nationally known researcher, Nick DiFonzo, to speak at UB on October 20th. They have him scheduled to speak at 4:30 on the 20th in the Performance Theater at the Student Center (5th floor), with light fare and refreshments to follow. There is no charge for the event.
Topic:

Rumor Accuracy: Ferreting Facts or Fashioning Fallacies?
Rumors have a bad reputation as being false, but is this reputation deserved? Dr. DiFonzo describes how some situations and circumstances lead to true rumors, while others to false ones. This covers accuracy base rates, the Matthew Accuracy Effect, attention deficits, memory limits, motivations in rumor spread, checking norms, collective intelligence, and the percolation model of rumor accuracy. Helpful to anyone seeking to be a better "rumor consumer," or seeking to understand how groups get it right-or wrong.
